Raise Your Voice Student Challenge

Micah Challenge Canada has launched the Raise Your Voice Challenge to inspire and equip students for effective, constructive advocacy in support of the MDGs, and to provide an opportunity for these students to meet and build relationships with their federal leaders during the National Prayer breakfast week. The student advocacy challenge is part of the broader mission of Micah Challenge Canada, to challenge and equip Christians in Canada to raise a prophetic voice for justice and mercy for the world’s poor through the achievement of the MDGs.

The program consists of a day-long advocacy training workshop, participation in the National Prayer Breakfast, meetings with MPs, and a debriefing session with the Micah Challenge Coordinator. The students will also be provided with time to visit Ottawa before returning home. Program participants in will be invited to come to Ottawa for four days, arriving on May 9th and departing May 12th. The official program will begin on the morning of May 10th. Students will be billeted by families and couples while in Ottawa, and food and transportation costs will be covered by Micah Challenge. Students will be expected to make their own travel arrangements to Ottawa.

As part of the program, students will commit to making one public presentation on their experience upon return home to their respective cities. Students will also be invited to continue learning and practicing their new advocacy skills by becoming Micah Challenge champions in their local communities. Becoming a champion involves mobilizing and sharing the Micah Challenge with a group of friends, colleagues, fellow congregation members, family etc, and organizing local advocacy events to help raise the profile of the MDGs, Christian advocacy, and the Micah Challenge.

Students interested in participating in the Raise Your Voice Challenge should contact Micah Challenge Coordinator Robyn Bright at robynbright@micahchallenge.ca to indicate their interest. They will then be provided with an application form for the program.

Expressions of interest in the program must be submitted to the Coordinator no later than April 23rd 2010. Applications must be submitted by April 30th 2010.

ACT:FAST 2010

Micah Challenge Canada is inviting Christian communities and organizations across Canada to join us as we ACT:FAST  in 2010 to end global poverty. ACT:FAST  continues the mission and vision of Micah Challenge, to deepen Christian commitment to the poor, and to hold governments accountable to the commitments they have made to those living in poverty. ACT FAST provides Christians with opportunities to pursue personal transformation and high impact global action to help alleviate poverty and to be part of a lifelong walk with the poor.

ACT:FAST is also part of the Micah Challenge International 2010 initiative, to mobilize 10 million Christians on October 10th, 2010 (“10.10.10”) in prayer for the poor, recommitting to action, signalling to governments that Christians around the world are serious about meaningful action on global poverty.

The ACT:FAST campaign will mobilize Christians across Canada for action in advance of three meetings or days of action that are of global importance . These three key dates/events are:
•    the G8 Summit (June 25-27, 2010)
•    the UN Special Summit on the Millennium Development Goals (September 20-22, 2010)
•    the Micah Challenge Global Day of Advocacy and Prayer “10.10.10” (October 10th, 2010)

STAND UP AGAINST POVERTY 2010

Stand Up is a day of global mobilisation to end poverty and inequality and for the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). This year, we are asking people to Stand Up and Take Action on September 17-19, in advance of the UN Special Summit on the MDGs, to ensure governments worldwide hear our global call to end poverty and inequality.

Help us make this year's Stand Up the biggest mobilisation against poverty ever: find out more about Stand Up, organize your event and register now!

2010 G8 Civil Society Coalition
