PUBLIC FORUM: Taking the Heat…African farmers coping with climate change
700 million Africans live in rural areas and make their living by growing and selling food. Changes in rainfall patterns, temperatures and growing season can have devastating impacts on their ability to feed themselves and their communities. Scientists predict that sub-Saharan Africa will be one of the places to feel the heat of climate change most severely, with major impacts on farm families and rural economies that are already under stress and often plagued by extreme poverty and hunger. What is the human face of climate change in Africa? What are Africans already doing to get by? Do Canadians have a responsibility to pitch in and help? Join us for an evening of dialogue with guests from Mali, Kenya and Malawi to hear stories of how African farmers and rural communities are coping with the impacts of climate change – a problem that Canadians have helped create.
